GENERAL TELEGRAMS
SUNK AT THE WHARF. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Friday. The steamer Pilot, 27 tons, belonging to' Wellington Harbor Ferries, Ltd., sank alongside the ferry wharf shortly after 4 o'clock this morning. The boiler was blown down last night for purposes of examination, and it is surmised that the salt water found, its way into the engine room by means of the sea-cock. The hull does not appear to be damaged.
SOUTH ISLAND DAIRY ASSOCIATION. Chriatchureh, Friday. The annual, conference of the South Island Dairy Association was held at Lyttelton yesterday, Mr. John Gray (Mataura) presiding. A demonstration of butter and cheese grading was given in the food store by the Government grader, Mr. E. Bowman, in the morning. At the business meeting in the afternoon Mr. Bowman suggested the formation of cow-testing associations, and it was decided to appoint delegates to confer with the North Island Association on matters of interest to the industry. CABLE INTERRUPTION. j Wellington, Friday. The Pacific cable has been more or less interrupted by snow storms in Canada all this week, and to-day word comes that cables via Australia are likely to be greatly delayed, the land lines being interrupted by storms. ALLEGED COUNTERFEITER. Palmerston N., Friday. In the Magistrate's Court today Charles Henry O'Loughlin, flax mill employee at Linton, was charged with having been in possession of seven counterfeit half-crowns and moulds intended to make counterfeit representations of halfcrowns. Accused was remanded to the 16th and bail refused. It is understood that two other men are also implicated.
