INGLEWOOD NEWS.

feYVLMMISU CUT. l-Oil MED. (From Our Oivn Correspondeiy..; A meeting convened for the purpose 'of inuuguriiKiiu a. swimming club was held in ilie drill hall on Tuesday evening. There was u fair attendance, including Dr. Kerr llistop and ,\ir. Payne, a swimming enthusiast irom Wanganui. Dr. liislop, who was voted to tho chair, said there was no need to say much in favor of a swimming club. There were all the requisites ready to their lunula—excellent baths and plenty 01 water, lie had seen the swimming baths in many large centres, and had not come across any better than the local one. There seemed to be a want of realisation of the immense enjoyment to be derived from swimming. l>'or himself, the best sport he had ever had was .swimming, and for years he had never missed tiie chance of a swim. He could not speak too strongly of swimming as mi exercise for keeping the body in good health. Jt seemed to him that everything was in favor of and nothing against the formation of a club. Mr. Payne, of Wanganui, a visitor to Inglcwood, said that he had been interested in swimming for many years. If a club were formed it would affiliate to the Wanganui centre of the N.Z.A.S.A. The Wanganui centre was surprised that, nil club had been formed before. A permit had been .granted to the Athletic Club to hold a sports meeting last February, on the understanding that a club would be formed, but nothing had been done. Now six weeks of the season had gone by 'without a move bejng made. The local baths were all that were necessary, and were just the right size. The water was soft and clean, and a sixpenny piece could be seen on the bottom at any part of the baths. The club should also affiliate to the Wanganui head centre of the Royal Life Saving Society.

On the motion of Mr Patterson, seconded by ilr. Nicholls, it was decided that a club styled the "Inglcwood Amateur Swimming Club" be formed. Officers were elected as follows: President, Dr. Kerr Hislop; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. Winlield, Pcrcival, and Curtis; secretary ana treasurer, Mr. E. Doueh; committee, the secretary, president, and vice-presidents,. and * Messrs. Xicholls, Patterson, Dutfil, Pullen, ajid Priest. The subscription was fixed at 2s Od for adult members and Is for members under 10 years. It was decided to affiliate to the Wanganvii centre of the. N.Z.A.S.A., and the Wangaiuiihead centre of the Royal Life Saving Society. The committee was instructed to draw up a set of rules to be submitted to a general meeting to be held on Tuesday, ITtll inst. The opening day will be in three weeks' time, and will take the form of a sports meeting. Those present are in the interim to use all their endeavours to induce as many persons as possible to join the club.
