BUSINESS NOTICES.

The '"Hake-a-Name" sale starts tomorrow, as will be seen by an inset in this issue. The name is fairly explicit. It is Messrs. 11. Calvert and Co.'s determination that this first sale of theirs shall make a name for the shop, and with this end in view the prices have been ruthlessly cut. The sale affects every article of the firm's new and well assorted stock, and the goods must be sold, for room is wanted. Next Saturday opens the greatest drapery sale of the season, when Morey and Son start to dispose of the balance of their summer stock at the biggest reduction vi-.t known. The usual terms are advertised, and doubtless the store will be crammed to the utmost by those who appreciate a good thing when offered. Particulars are announced in to-day's issue.

The sale l>v Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co. on account of trustees in the assigned estate of It. VY. Bond, is postponed until Wednesday next, 18th. inst. The attention of investors is called to the sale of properties which Mr. Newton King is holding at his mart, New Plymouth, on the 14th inst. The Tahatai estate at Waitara West comprises some of the choicest land in Northern Taranaki, and as it is situated about 1% miles from Waitara, the property should meet with ready sale. The land has been subdivided into convenient farms, ranging from 50 to 100 acres, is well watered, and is bounded by metalled roads. To anyone in want of a small farm this sale should offer an exceptional opportunity. There will also be offered on the same day a line residence at Omata, about :i'/ ; miles from New Plymouth. This property comprises about 13 acres of land (facing tile Main South road), with fine six-roomed house and outbuildings, and should make a splendid suburban residence for anyone having a business

in 'town. When the Melbourne places a money value 011 a suit in order that you may form a correct idea or the saving, that value is based upon the firm's own low regular selling price, and not. as in many other stores, upon the limit of public credulity. The sample tailor-made suits now offering at s!)s 0(1 are worth 755, and would have been sold at that price were it not that they were purchased from an overstocked manufacturer at a third less than his usual price.—Advt. Following their usual custom, White and Sons are now having their after season clearing sale. Modern advertising consists in telling the public directly and to the point exactly what the advertiser has for sale; and that this policy is effective is evidenced by the crowds that frequented Whites' store following the opening of the sale. Renders of the Daily Xews during the past three years who have read dav bv dav of the different items being handled by White's, and have Ijeen to examine the goods advertised, will bear testimony to the reliability of the announcement.—Advt. I'l'ench kid gloves, 2s lid a pair: wide sash ribbons, "lid per yard; 42-inch chiffon, lid per yard; leather belts, Is each, are some of the special lines to be found at the Busy Cash Store, opposite Carnegie Library, King street. New Plymouth.—Advt. Arabury Bros, have pleasure in reporting record Xmas business. A pleasin" feature is the fact that a large number 1 of settlers who have been doing consistent business with the firm for 20 years are still among their best customers, while a great number of more recent residents of town and country and many visitors have accorded them their generous patronage. The firm ( takes this opportunity of thanking their numerous patrons for past support, and assuring them and the general public . that no effort shitU'.be wanting in catering for the requirements of the district in future. With best wishes for a happy and prosperous Nbw Ycur A-ctyt
