Sir George White, chairman of the British and Colonial Aeroplane Company, of Bristol, just before the. last mail left, said that tiie airmen whom the company are sending out to Australia and New Zealand to give Hying exhibitions, will arrive in Australia in the course of December. After visiting all Hie large cities in Australia, they propose to proceed to New Zealand, and visit several of the leading towns. The chief aviator in the "coniimv-ion'' is a New Zealander, Mr. Joseph Hammond, who is n certified pilotaviateur. Horn in Keilding (New Zealand), Mr. Hammond was educated in Wellington, and later went sheep-farm-ing in Australia, gold-mining in Klondykc anil trapping in Alaska. lie also travelled in the United States for six months as a cowboy in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Coming to Europe, he took up aeroplaning at the school at Rheims. and gained his pilot's eertilieate there in the record time of ten days. A stali' of mechanics, one of whom, Mr. L. McDonal.!, is also a certificated air-pilot, are accompanying Mr. Hammond, and th» company's manager, Mr. Sydney 1'". Smith, is in charge of the conimk-ion. Mr. Hammond will use two ''Bristol" biplanes. made by .Sir George White's company at Bristol. Among the well-known pilots who have used ''Bristol" biplanes are Captain Dickson, .Air. Cecil Grace, Lieut. Gibbs, and Mr. Jullerot. The lastnamed is to give tlying exhibitions in India on behalf of tiie Bristol company.
