LAWN TENNIS.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. In tennis circles interest is growing in the forthcoming championship and handicap tournament meeting to be held at the New Plymouth Lawn Tennis Club's grounds. Vivian street, on January 20tli, 27th, and 28th. The Taranaki Lawn Tennis Association, under whose auspices the meeting will be held, has arranged a programme of ten events, five being championship and five handicap, as follows:

CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS. Men's Singles.—Taranaki Lawn Tennis Association's Challenge Cup and trophy, value £2 2s; runner-up, trophv, value £1 Is.

Men's Doubles. —Trophies, value £1 10s each.

Ladies' Singles.—Gold medal, value £2 2s; runner-up, trophy, value £1 Is. Ladies' Doubles.—-Trophies, value £1 5s each.

Combined Doubles.—Trophies, value £1 10s each. HANDICAP EVENTS.

Men's Singles—A grade: Trophy, value £2 2s; runner-up, trophy, value £1 Is; B''gradc: trophy, value £1 10s; runner-up, trophy, value 15s.

Men's Doubles, 00 points up—Trophies value £1 Is each.

Ladies' Singles, 40 points up.—Trophy, value £1 Is; runner-up, trophy, value 10a.

Ladies' Doubles, 40 points up.—Troph ies, value £1 Is each.

All events will he played in accordance with rules and regulations of the N.Z. Lawn Tennis Association, and all events are open only to members of clubs affiliated to some lawn tennis association recognised by tiie N.Z. Lawn Tennis Association. Slazcngers' lawn tennis balls will be used. Entries close at 0 p.m. on Monday. January 23rd, with the hon. secretary, Mr. 11. Stockor, New Plymouth, and must he made through the secretary of a club. Plav will begin each day at 0.30 a.m., except Thursday.
