TARANAKI COMPAXY. The figures relating to the visitors at the bores of late are increasingly interesting. From September 5 to January 0, inclusive, there have been 1300 visitors to the bores, and it is almost needless to say that very keen interest was manifested in the works by everybody. At Xo. 1 bore work is progressing satisfactorily; at Xo. 2 there is no abatement in the flow of oil; Xo. 3 is down to a depth of 3230 feet, and oil is still flowing; Xo. 5 is drilled to a depth of 300 feet In view of a statement recently made by Sir James 'Mills, managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company, in reference to oil being the fuel of the future, the directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Company extended an invitation to him to visit the works at Motuvoa, and on Monday a reply was received from Sir James Mills, who is now in Australia, stating that he will be very glad to accept the invitation to pay a visit to the wells on his return; Sir James adds that he will be pleased to iiear that the oil industry in Taranaki is a commercial success.
