MIDDLE-EASTERN SITUATION
FRANCE'S INTEREST IN RUSSIA. By Cable—J>ress Association—Copyright. Received 10, 11.30 p.m. London, January 10. The Times' Paris correspondent says the main interests of France in regard to the Middle-Eastern question are that Russia shall not become involved in a conflict -weakening her influence in Europe; also that the Persian entente with Britain shall be maintained and strengthened. He adds: Certain sections of the proposed Russo-German agreement c;n be interpreted by the Germans as an acknowledgment of the exclusive sphere of German interest throughout Asia Minor.
A GERMAN BOAST. IS BRITAIN OUT-GENERALLED? Received 10, 11.30 p.m. Berlin, January 10. The Vossiche. Zeitung declares that Britain is yet unable to block the progress of the Bagdad railway, now that an agreement had been reached between Russia and Germany. If Britain insists on the terminus being a British post, Germany knew she could get what she wanted over Britain's head.
