AMUSEMENTS.

LAWRENCE CAMPBELL, ENTER

TAINER.

Mr. Lawrence Campbell gives his two nights' recital in the Theatre Royal on the 11th awl 12th. This gentleman is an artist of the first water, and absolutely a master of elocutionary craft. Tic is credited and generally considered as Australia's premier exponent, and Mas officiated as judge and adjudicator at the Ballarat competitions, which is the largest and most representative gathering of its kind in Australasia. His performance here will be much on the same lines as the late lid. B. Spurr, embracing recitations (classical and humorous), musical monologues, ballads and sketches. Mr. Campbell is a veritable "fun doctor," and can hold an audience in a wonderful way. He possesses a strong personality, and is wonderfully mesmeric, and can frighten the ''dumps" away from the most pessimistic mortal in town. Eugene OssipolT, the Russian singer accompanying Mr. Campbell, lias a voice well trained and most powerful, and although a baritone he can soar as high as many tenors. The box plan opens at Collier's. Miss liene Lees, accompanying Mr. Campbell, who made her lirst appearance in New Zealand in Wellington, is a young pianist who has come rapidly into, prominence in Sydney lately by her line execution and finish, combined with most sympathetic touch. Miss Shaw Mayer is another able accompanist who assists in his wonderful musical monologues.

"A MENACE FROM MAKS." Theatregoers will have an opportunity on January 10 and 17 of renewing tlloir all too brief acquaintance with the clever Plimmer-Dcnniston Dramatic Co., who a few months back delighted New Plymouth audiences. On this occasion they will open their season with "A Message from Mars," to be followed by a revival of -'Lovers' Lane" (the sweetest story toid). The visit of this clever company must still lie fresh in the memory of local theatre-goers, and it is intensely gratifying to know that so thoroughly pleased were they with the reception accorded them that they are soon returnin"'. Tim box plan opens at Colliers 011 Thursday morning.
