A DEVASTATING EARTHQUAKE
HALF A TOWN DESTROYED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, January i. Reuter says that an earthquake lasting five minutes occurred in Russian Turkestan. Half the houses in Vyerni were destroyed. Fissures appeared in the earth at Nubal. The seismograph at West Bromwich recorded a shock which was beyond the capacity of the instrument, and the needle broke. St. Petersburg, January 4. Forty corpses have been recovered at Vyerni.
