BUSINESS NOTICES.

Mr. Herbert Babbagc, who has just held a successful exhibition in the Auckland Society of Arts' gallery, is opening next Saturday at Hooker's sample rooms for one week. New Plymouth people will recollect the exhibition of English and Continental sketches Mr. Babbage held here last year. Now they will have an opportunity of seeing, besides some English ones not shown last time, over 100 New Zealand subjects from Rotorua, Auckland, Kawhia, etc. Miss Corry, a young New Plymouth artist now studying in the Glasgow School of Art, also has a few water-colors in the exhibition. This will be the last opportunity of seeing Mr. Babbage's work, as he is returning to England next April. The public are reminded of the sale of dairy stock which Mr. Newton King is holding on account of Mr. A. C. Marr, on the farm, Tataraimaka, on Friday next. The cattle to be offered are all in first-class condition, and as the herd has been very heavily culled, this sale should offer a fine opportunity to farmers to secure good dairy stock.

The attention of our readers is directed to a seasonable advertisement from Mr. C. Carter, the people's grocer, with regard to fruit preserving requirements. ln-ench kid gloves, 2s lid a pear; widij sash ribbons, (id per yard; 42-inch chiffon, lid per yard; leather belts, Is each, are some of the special lines to be found at the Busy Cash Store, opposite Carnegie Library, King street, New Plymouth.—Advt.

The idea that "any old tiling will do" for surf bathing is a thing of the past. There is no reason why people should not wear smart and becoming apparel on the beaoh. In fact, quite the contrary, there is good reason why they should. The advertisement of the twopiece all-wool Canadian costumes heralds a new era in seaside apparel. The new costumes are both becoming and suitable and arc moderately priced at the Melbourne.—Alvt.

Visitors, as well as town residents, will be wanting picnic hats and dresses, extra blouses and bathing suits during the holiday. Turn in at White's, and you will note the largest selection of these goods, made expressly for holiday wear, to be had in the province. Cool summer vests and cheap sunshades for the beach are also ready for holitlay-makers. —Advt.

Ainbury Bros, have pleasure In reporting record Xmas business. A pleasing feature is the fact that a large number of settlers who have been doing consistent business with the firm for 20 years are still among their best customers, while a great number of more recent residents of town and country and many visitors have accorded them their generous patronage. The firm takes this opportunity of thanking their numerous patrons for past support, and assuring them and the general public that no effort shall be wanting in catering for the requirements of the district in future. With best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year. —Advt.
