Totals 158 HSO 100 484 The runners-up were the Victoria Rifles, with a score of 480. The win carries with it a sum of £8 and the famous Waihi rooster. The intrinsic worth of the rooster is practically nil, being only a sheet of iron cut to represent a "cock-a-doodie-doo," but its historic associations are highly valued. The team is to be complimented on the excellent "shoot" put up, and Private Arnold comes in for special felicitations. The score is a record one for the match, the previous best being 482. This is the first occasion on which the Riiies have secured the honor, but live years ago a team from Taranaki, consisting of Corporal Armitage and Private Marett (Rifles), Lieutenant White, Sergeants Carey and Ilulber't (Patea Riiies), was successful.

In other competitions the members of the team did fairly well at Auckland, the most successful being Lieutenant Willis, who won £4 altogether.
