A Sydney cablegram states that Mr. Smith and Hisses Walker and Turnbull liave been elected New Zealand' representatives on the general committee of the Australasian Students' ChristianUnion.

Mr. A. T. Dryden, Chief Postmaster, arrived from Auckland on Monday and took up his new duties yesterday. Mr. J. H. Stephens, inspecting officer for the Wellington District, who has been act-ing-chief postmaster since Mr. ChaneyV departure, left for Hawera last night. Dr. Brown, of Hawera, has received word of a sad fatal accident to a member of his family in Philadelphia. His aunt (Mrs. James De Wolf Perry), who had just returned from a visit to Europe, was crossing a street to take a train when she was 'knocked down by a motor car, and received such injuries that she died very shortly afterwards. Mr. E. E. Booth, acting as "avunfc courier" for Lawrence Campbell, the English and Australian elocutionist, arrived in town yesterday to complete arrangements for Mr. Campbell's recitals here on January 11 and 12, Mr. Booth has quite an Australasian reputation as a footballer, having represented both New South Wales and New Zealand, and is more familiarly known amonpat the football fraternity as the "General."
