TEMUKA TRAIN TRAGEDY
TWO MEN KILLED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. i\s the second express from the south approached Temuka station this evening, a horse and dray, with two men in it, were standing near Buxton's store at the railway yard. The whistle of the engine caused the horse to holt. It ran across the line in front of train. The engine struck the wheel and smashed the dray to matchwood. The engine carried ithe two men a short distance, and killed and mangled them frightfully. Both were residents of Temuka: John MoAulifle, a laborer, a widower, with six or seven young children; and Wm, Snell, a retired farmer, with a family of grown men. Both were old residents and highly respected in Temuka. The station yard is admitted to be very dangerous. This is the fifth fatality, and efforts to have a public crossing made near the site of the fatality will be renewed.
