CHAMPIONS AT RIVERTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night.' Tlie feature of the Riverton Athletic Society's sports to-day was the presence j among the competitors of Hoi way, of America, the world's champion professional sprinter, TremOath. the New Zealand middle distance champion, and McLaughlan, the well-known Napier runner. Holway, who is on a tour of New Zealand, arrived from Hobart 011 Monday, and will leave to-morrow morning for Timaru. The ground was very heavy. The principal event (100 yds. handicap) was won by White from the 10yds. mark, with Holway (scr.) second, and Trembath (3yds.) third. Trembath, starting from 4yds., won the 220 yds., with McLaughlan (Byds.) second, and Walker (20yds.) third. Holway was .unplaced. At Balfour on Tuesday McLaughlan won the Sheffield Handicap and the half-mile. 5 OPUNAKE CALEDONIAN SPORTS. The Opunake Caledonian Society's sports held' on Monday were largely attended, and good sport was provided. Following are the results of the various events:— Maiden Handicap, 150 yds.—A. Calendar 1, W. Looney 2. Wallis also started. 100 yds Handicap.—A. Callendar (12yds) 1, S. Julian (11yds) 2, W. Looney (12yds) 3. Also started: H. Corkill (7yds) and J. Thompson (6yds). Bagpipe Music.—A. McLeod 1, 'K. "Matheson 2, W. McLeod 3. McKenzie also competed. Double-handed Saw.—J. and L. Parsons (ssec) 1, Cross and Young (7sec) 2, Julian and mate (3sec) 3. Miss C. Barr was placed, first and Master J. Barr second in the three dancing events for juveniles in costume. —Highland Fling, Sword Dance, and Sheauntruibhas. They were the only competitors.
