LAWN TENNIS.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, Monday. The New Zealand lawn tennis championship meeting began to-day. With the exception of a north-easterly breeze, the weather was perfect. The courts were in first-class order, and some interesting games resulted. There was a large attendance, including visitors from different parts of the Dominion. The arrangements were very complete, and were favorably commented upon by the visiting players. The gathering is thoroughly representative, and includes such players as Miss K. Nunneley, for many years New Zealand champion, H. A. Parker, J. Peacock, F. M. B. Fisher, T. Quill, F. Wilson, and Miss Wellwood. Results:— MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. First round: H. Parker beat N. Smythe, 6 —3, 6 —l, 6—4 j J. C. Peacock beat T. Quill, I—6, B—6.8 —6. Quill withdrew at the second set. F. Wilson , beat Davey, o—2,0 —2, G—2, 4 —6, 4—6, 0 —1; F. M. B. Fisher beat H. Brown, 6—2, 3—6, 7 —5, 6—l. Semi-final: J. C. Peacock beat H. A. Parker, 2 —6, 6 —3, 7 —5, 6 —3; F. M. B. Peacock was slow to start, but once he got going his driving was brilliant, and excepting j at' two stages after the first set he I never looked like losing. Some of his j smashing was .very fine, and it is doubtful if he ever played a better all-round game. He kept Parker on the back line by his beautiful length, and' it was a novelty to see Parker consistently on the move from corner to corner, ;■ LADIES' CHAMPION SINGLES.
