Dunedin Jockey Club sustained a protest entered against Armstrong, winner of the Salisbury Handicap on Monday, o* the ground that he was ineligible, having won the Apprentice Stake of a value of over 100 sovs. at Christchurch. The stakes were consequently awarded to Pure Gold. 1 SEDITION SCRATCHED. Auckland, Wednesday. Sedition was scratched for the Sumj mer Cup at 11.25 this imoming. , : CAPITOLSHOT. Thames, Wednesday. Capitol, who was injured in the steeplechase yesterday, was shot this morning. Langdon, his rider, escaped with a severe shaking. STRATFORD RACING CLUB. j PENALTIES IMPOSED. (By "Moturoa. -; The Stratford races, which eventuate on January 2nd and 3rd, give promise ,of beiny one of the most successful and well patronised functions of the holiday season. Splendid acceptances have been received in all.the handicap events, and some interesting racing should result.: Since last meeting the appearance of the course has been very much improved, owing to the central portion having been re-sown in grass. The rac: ing track is better than it has ever been, and has been very much improved by the extension of the top rail from the. straight to the entrance gate. Special train arrangements, have been made for visitors from both north and south, a special train having been arranged for from Wanganui to Stratford and back each day. The Patea Brass Band, which has recently imported a complete set of new instruments, has been engaged to provide music, and, given fine weather, a most enjoyable outing for the club's many patrons is assured.
