Messrs. Stanley Shaw and Bouchqg were amongst the passengers for AuclK land last night per s.s. Rarawa. Among the passengers who arrived by the Moeraki yesterday is Mr. Hodgfc Labor member for Gorton, Lancashir% who intends visiting various towns in New Zealand. A Wellington Press message states that Dr. Bell, Director of Geological Survey, has resigned, for family reasons, and will leave New Zealand on March 12th. Mr. Colin Fraser, mining geologist, has also resigned. Says a London correspondent -Misa Helen Robson, of New Plymouth, came to England to see her mother, who was. ill. The latter has made such a good recovery that Miss Eobson is returning to New Zealand by the lonic. R. H. Quilliam was very successful at Nelson College during the past term, having won the Good Fellowship medal, the Principal's prize, and the Moeller medal for the head of £he school. His younger brother won the Stafford scholarship for modern history and the prize for the best pass in Standard 6.~ At a meeting of the North Canterbury Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union yesterday afternbon, states « Press wire, it was reported that Mr. D. The New South Wales Rhodes Scholar for 1911 is Mr. H. K. Ward, M.8., who has just completed his course in the Faculty of Medicine, Sydney University, graduating with first-class honors. Mr. Ward haa taken $ prominent part in athletics, particularly in rowing. He was stroke of the winning New South Wales eight this year in the inter-State contest at Hobart for the Commonwealth championship. He won his colors for athletics at school, has played B grade tennis at the University, and lias represented his college in football. In rowing he has had a long series of successes. Mr. Ward is a son of Dr. F. W. Ward, editor of the Daily Telegraph. Mr. C. S. King was chosen as the Tasmanian Rhodes Scholar. He has just competed bis arts course at the University, taking classical subjects. Mr. King is a well-known football player, having represented Southern Tasmania against Victoria, and he is a good cricketer and all-round athlete. Mr. Cecil Thorn® Madigan, of Ambleside, has been selected as the South Australian Rhodes ScholSr'for 1011.
