The coffin of Beatrice,. daughter of Charles Martel, who defeated the Saracens in one of the decisive battles of the world, has been discovered in the convent of St. Just at Grenoble. Owing to a movement for an increase in wages, a meeting of the textile societies of the West Riding of Yorkshire initiated the principle of a working agreement in the woollen indiistry in general trade matters. A committee has been appointed to arrange details. ALBERTI CONVICTED OF FRAUD. Copenhagen, December 18. Alberti, former Minister of Justice, has been convicted of fraud, and sentenced to eight years, and fined 3000 kroner, the costs of the defence and prosecution. ALL HOPE ABANDOXED. London, December 18. All hope has been abandoned of the dredger Stonewall, which, with fifteen aboard, sailed from Hull a fortnight ago. A lifeboat and cutter have been picked up, marked "Stonewall."

The Destitute Sailors' Fund, which is practically an Imperial labor exchange for seamen, resolved to reorganise and expand its work in order more thoroughly to assist those belonging to the oversea dominions.
