MOA ROAD BOARD
MOXTHLY MEETING. The Board met at Ingle wood on Saturday, when the following innnbers were 'present: Messrs. H. Trimble (chairman), Virgin, T. Williams, Corkill, Collhigwood, Lawrence, and J. Williams. BRISTOL ROAD TRAM-LINE. A letter was read from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, drawing the attention of the Board to the condition in which Mr. Surrey had left the tramline. The writer requested that the rubbish left on the road to the detriment of the forest reserve fronting the road be cleared away as early as possible, as tenders had been called for clearing the noxious weeds on the reserve.—Mr. Surrey's attention to be again drawn to the matter, and if not attended to in a reasonable time, the' work to be done by the Board at his expense.
MANGAXUi RIVER BRIDGE. Mr. J. W. Poynton, superintendent New Zealand State-Guaranteed Advances Office, informed the Board that the loan of £2700 for a ferro-concrete bridge over the Manganhi river had been passed, and that it would be submitted for the final approval of the Minister. Received, members expressing satisfaction with the forward state of affairs. A CLOSED ROAD.
Mr. John Butler, Norfolk road, asked permission to clear the stumps off and plough and re-sow that' portion of Ross road along his sections, and to: have the use of the road until the Board decided to open same, as at present it was almost impossible to keep down theweeds.—The Board gave the necessary permission, provided there was no objection on the part of neighboring ratepayers, and Mr. Butler accepted all risks. , CONCRETE PIPES. In regard to the prices of pipes which were submitted to the Board, members, considered that they were altogether toohigh, and that it would be advisable for the Board to manufacture them. It was resolved to make enquiries' as to the cost of a shed in which it would be suitable for carrying out the work on a site at Maketawa. HEALTH MATTERS. The circular to local bodies from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Department on the legal powers and responsibilities of local authorities under the Health Act was received from Dr. Valintine, and asked if the Board would consider the appointment of a delegate to discuss the matter at a conference to be held shortlv. The chairman explained that at present the Board did nothing except pay the cost of disinfecting houses, after the district health officer had gone round and reported on the cases; they paid nothing towards the salary of the inspector, who said thev got a lot of wol ,< done for nothing which tliOv ought td pay for. At the same time he had no love for the hogpitals. •: "Neither have I," said Mr. Lawrence".
The chairman said it would he better to appoint a delegate and see what the proposals were. It was , agreed that Mr. Trimble be appointed as the delegate. .Mr, yirgin interjected: "It is about time their wings were clipped a bit!"

The tender of Mr. H. McKay at £1725 I for the Bristol road bridge was accepted, the gravel alid mi to be supplied by the Board. Mr. Tarry's tender for these was accepted as follows: Metalling, £5 15s per chain; gravel, 125vds at 4s Gel yd., 3®) yds. sand at 4s Gd'yd., 125 yds. shingle at 3s 6d yd., and 60yd. sand at 3s 6d. yd. ->- •«*, The tenders for brokeii Metal on Upland road were held ovefr until next meeting. Accounts amounting to £232 5s Were passed for payment.
