ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
DEATH DUE TO EXCITEMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. At an inquest to-night concerning the death of Jane Vercoe, a boarding-house keeper, who died suddenly on Thursday night, a verdict was returned in accordance with the nx-dical evidence, Avhich was that death was due to cerebral hemorrhage at the base of the brain, probably due to excHfcJuent. BOY SERIOUSLY INJURED. A most serious accident befel a young lad named Early, about 10 years of age, whose parents reside at Westown, on Wednesday afternoon. The boy had climbed an ajpple tree in a garden behind Mrs. Bruce's store, near the Hospital gate. He apparently lost his footing'and fell a distance of some eight feet to the ground. In the fall the lad was struck in the face by a small piece of a limb of the tree. It must have grazed his cheek, but penetrated the head beneath the eyeball to a considerable depth. The lad was at once removed to the hospital, where it was found that the stick had penetrated the head over five inches to the brain. The lad's condition is exceedingly grave.
