Regular troops were distributed among the tribes to disarm the Bed6uins, in consequence of which the latter planned and carried out a massacre of the soldiers'. Sixteen guns were captured, and the massacre and looting" of Kerak followed, but the Christians were spared. Sixteen battalions of Turkish Redifs were sent from Adana to relieve the besieged garrisons.
