A SUGGESTED SOLUTION. By Cable—Press Associatioa—Copyright. London, December 15. Sir Edward Clarke, speaking in London, said thai the result of the balanced election must be a conference of Peers with a view to settlement of the constitutional question. It was intolerable that the issue should be adjourned election after election, and ultimately decided in the passion of a wholly alien oontest. Both the Parliament Bill and the veto must go, and the best men on both sides must find a solution more in harmony with the country's traditions. UNIONIST WORKING-MEN BEATEN. Received 16, 9.50 p.m. London, December IG. None of the Unionists' working-men candidates were elected. SPEECH BY THE PREMIER. Received 16, 9.50 pjn. London, December 16. Mr. Asquith, speaking at Retford, ridiculed the suggestion tliat the elections had proved inconclusive. "Are we to re■gn when our constituents have given us a majority of over a hundred? If so, who is to carry on the King's Government?" he asked. He added: Mr. Balfour says it is a shocking thing for a Government to be at the mercy of the Irish. The Liberals, however, were perfectly capable of taking care of their own reputation, and were not going to be coerced into any action which their consciences did not approve. CONTESTED ELECTIONS.
