THE SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP
ALLEGATIONS OF UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT. REPUDIATED BY ARNST. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 15, 8.55 p.m. Sydney. December 15. Files of the London Sportsman contain some sweeping statements by Mr. Guy Nickalls regarding Arnst demanding £4OO instead of £3OO for his expenses in connection with the Zambesi race. 'Mr. Nickalls declares that Arnst threatened to throw up the race unless his demand was conceded. He was placed in a difficult position, and ended it by giving Arnst his personal cheque for the £IOO claimed. Owing to Avnst's action, there was likely to be a deficit of £SO, which the guarantors would make good. Arnst and Floyd, interviewed, denied a number of Mr. Nickalls' statements. Arnst said, "They cannot take a beating like sportsmen." The reason he demand- : ed the extra hundred was that he had thought he was to get a share of the gate money, and the sole right of the moving pictures, but he got nothing out of the gate, and had to share the picture money with Barry. He was also charged for accommodation, although he understood he was to be the guest of the Chartered Company.
