HIGH SCHOOL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING.

The Board met yesterday, and was at- i tended by Messrs. N. K. MacDiarmid,! M. Fraser, S. Percy-Smith, J. E. Wilson, E. Dockrill, and Dr. Fookes. An apology wag tendered for the absence of Mr. Glasgow, who is at present in Nelson. Letters were read from Mr. Mar-1 chant, stating that he was unable to j continue the work of ranger for the i Board, owing to the alteration of the! Act and his having ceased to act fori the School Commissioners. The sccre-i tary was instructed to communicate with the Lands Department, to see if they could arrange for the inspection of the Board's reserves by their ranger. A notification was received from the secretary of the School Commissioners, stating that in future, owing to the re-letting of the reserves, the Board's income would be considerably augmented.—The secretary was instructed to return thanks to the Commissioners for informing the Board in anticipation. It was resolved that the master in charge be requested to report on the working of the boarding establishment quarterly; and that the visiting committee visit the boarding establishment monthly.

Letters were, received from the Waitaki High School and Stratford District High School, regarding an agricultural course for New Plymouth, and it was resolved that the Principal be instructed to take steps to establish an agricultural course for next year. The whole question of salaries will come up for consideration at next meeting. .. ..

The term of appointment of Messrs. Fraser, Dockrill, and Dr. Fookes having "expired, it was resolved that their -reappointment by the Governor be recom-i mended. !

Mr. Pridham, Principal, wrote re alteration in cooking and dressmaking classes, but the Board decided to obtain further information before making any change. Accounts amounting to £306 14s f)d, being two months' finance, were passed for payment. The chairman reported that good pro-j gress was being made with the tennis | court.
