THE SITUATION BECOMES ACtfTE,

The, strike situation is becoming acute. The Electric Supply Company's coal supply is.running short, and the city will be left in darkness unless a settlement is soon reached. Shipping is greatly impeded. Pickets are very active, and in. some cases have removed horses from drays. It is ' understood that negotiations for a conference are proceeding.
