ITS PROVISIONS NOW IN FORCEBy Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. There being some doubt in the minds of many business people as to whether the Public Holidays Act recently passed would come into operation before Christmas, Mr. H. Broadhead, secretary ol the Canterbury Employers' Association, wrote last week to the Minister of Labor on the subject, and yesterday received the following telegram' in reply: "Regret your letter 6th inst. overlooked. Public Holidays Act came into force on being assented to by His Excellency." The first holidays to be affected by the new statute will be Xmas Day and Ist January next. It is enacted that whenever these days are provided for as holidays in any Act, or in any award or industrial agreement, and they fall on a Sunday, they must be observed on the following day (Monday).
