INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) For some time past cyclists have been privileged to ride on the footpaths in prder to escape the dirty roads, but, as usual, this privilege has been abused, and so the Borough Council has come to the only possible decision in the matter, viz., that proce'edings be taken against offenders. The Council's men have been instructed to report any further breach of the by-laws in this direction, and the police constable has also been instructed to keep his eyes open for offenders. * The Fire Brigade, which has for so long lain dormant, lias taken a new lease of life. The Tradesmen's Association has taken the matter up, and new members are rolling in and practices are being held. It is a relief to see that some small effort is being made to protect the local property from fire, and also to make use of the fine water power available.
Several new buildings are being erected in Inglewood just now, and are being pushed along vigorously, Inglewood's building trade has been very brisk for some time past, and there seems every probability of its remaining so. The recent cold snap has materially affected the attendance at the swimming baths here. It is only the enthusiasts who now enjoy (?) their early morning dip.
A very heavy thundeT and rain storm passed over Inglewood on Saturday. Thunder was in the air on Sunday also, but no storm came our way. Owing to the wet weather the cricket match with New Plymouth was postponed. A tennis match which had been arranged with Waitara suffered a similar fate. The cricketers spent a useful afternoon practising at the nets.
