GETS A SOAKING RAIN AT LAST.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Shortly after eleven o'clock to-day, a light rain began to fall. Black clouds tltbn began tojfc rise from the east, and a heavy thunderstorm commenced. Peals of thunder and vivid flashes of lightning continued for about an hour, accompanied by a drenching downpour. At about one o'clock the weather cleared a little, and the thunderstorm passed away, though light rain continued to fall for some time.

The lightning struck the Tramway Board's lines in several places in the city, and burnt off some light brackets. Lightning struck the chimney of Mr. England's new house in Springfield Road during the storm, and one chimney-pot and a few bricks were knocked off, and the tiled roof damaged by the falling bricks. °

Several light showers fell in Lyttelton about nine o'clock this morning, but a little later the weather cleared. Shortly before midday a thunderstorm, accompanied by lightning and heavy rain, passed over the harbor. A thunderstorm passed over North Canterbury shortly after midday, and heavy rain fell at Rangiora for half an hour. Local showers fell over the northern district at intervals during the afternoon.
