A HEAVY RAINFALL. Received 12, 9.50 p.m. Brisbane, December 12. Ten inches of rain have fallen in thirty-six hours, but it has now cleared.

NARRANDERA GOLD FIND. •Received 12, 0.50 p.m. Sydney, December 12. Later reports depreciate the value ol the sold field at Narramlera. No prospecting of any moment is being done. The pegging of claims continues notwithstanding.

THE VANCOUVER SERVICE. Received 13. 12.10 a.m.

Sir James Mills has written to Mr. Hughes, stating that he is willing to consult the Federal Government at any time in reference to the Vancouver mail service contract, but it will be inconvenient for him if the matter is delayed till the end of January. It is probable, however, that nothing will be done before that date.

Sydney, October 2. Incessant heavy rain' has fallen since last night, and there are no signs of its ceasing. The low-lying parts are beginning to flood. Dirty weather, with a heavy sea, has been experienced along the coast. The rainfall is widespread, and is especially heavy on the north coast.

INSPECTION OF SCHOOLS. Received 13, 12.10 a.m. Sydney, December 12. ,Mr. Beeby, Minister of Education, proposes to introduce legislation providing for the inspection of all non-State schools.

TRANSPORT WORKERS' STRIKE. Adelaide, December 12,

The transport workers' strike commenced this morning. Some sixty manufacturing firms have conceded the demands, and about three hundred men have resumed work on the new terms. Two thousand remain out. The strikers induced a number of non-unionists to desert their carts.
