DISTRICT NEWS.
WAREA. (From Our Own Correspondent). Mr. Alfred Ducker, one of our local sawmillers, met with a nasty accident last Wednesday week while working in the bush. It appears lie had just started work after dinner, and had felled a tree, which, I understand, came back and struck another one, falling on Mr Ducker, breaking one of his legs. He was taken in to New Plymouth for medical attention and it is hoped that he will soon be able to get about again. The local school children are holding a concert here in the hall on the loth inst. The ratepayers of tlya district hope that the proposed Kaitake county will take them in their rating area, as we all want to get out of "the position we are in, bad roads. The thing that would make good roads the Egmont and Taraiaki County Councils are against getting, and that is a steam roller. They already have the enginie and crushing plant and a roller could be procured at a small cost, and it would nearly pay for itself the first year by saving all the metal that is now knocked off the roads.. It seems as if it is not only the poor unfortunate motor cars that come to grief on the road. Last week, as Mr. Hart, the fisherman, was going up the Warea road, his horse stumbled, and threw him out of the trap on to the road. The horse, being first to get on its feet, made off and ran into a stump on the side of the road, smashing the trap up badly. The pieces were taken down to the blacksmith's and the load of eighteen sohnapper was sold to local farmer for two shillings—a bargain on the farmer's part. The Rev. H. Braddock, the Presbyterian minister, iwiho has been stationed on the Coast for the last six months or more, left last week for his home at Petone, where his wife and family live. Mr. Adams, his successor, has arrived here and taken up his duties.
