AMUSEMENTS.

JOHNSON-JEFFRIES. PICTURES. The following is an extract from a letter written to a Wellington boxing enthusiast by a well-known American sporting authority:—"About the Reno fight: Don't be bluffed by any of this talk about it being a, crook fight. 1 was there, aniV'l know. There were two or three cliches at the start, but nothing to spoil a picture or detract from the interest. Never mind what they say about Jeff now, he was a great sight that day, and did no discredit to the white race, even though lie was outclassed by a younger man. It was a good fight, and hot. There was some of the finest boxing I ever saw. From the start there was no doubt that both men were there to win. They fought fair but they were as grim as death. The way Johnson made 'good and wore the big fellow down was a wonderful of what science backed by youth can do. You've got to keep in mind, too, I saw the pictures no longer ago than yesterday, and they are in cool fact the best fight pictures I ever did see. The definition is perfect." To enable shopkeepers to attend the pictures of this memorable contest the management has decided not to start the fight pictures until 9.30 p.m.
