A LIVELY MEETING

CHAIRMAN THREATENS TO CALL A CONSTABLE. By Telegraph.—Pre3B Association. Auckland, Wednesday. A scene occurred at this afternoon's meeting of the Auckland Harbor Board between the chairman of the Board (Mr. A. J. Entrican) and Mr. J. H. Bradney, and for a. few moments the proceedings took- a very lively turn. The incident arose out of a letter from Mr. Bradney which, appeared in the Herald of Friday last, in which lie asserted that a letter sent to the .Board some three or four months ago had been "suppressed at the time." The chairman, in bringing the matter up, expressed' regret that any membei of the Board should make such a charge against his fellow members. He would, he said, give the member in question an opportunity of withdrawing the assertion that the letter had been suppressed. Mr. Bradney, who remarked that he was, of course, the member referred to, declined to withdraw his statements. The facts as given by him in his letters to the Herald were indisputable. The chairman: I call upon you, Mr. Bradney, to withdraw the statement that the letter was suppressed. Mr. Bradney said he would not withdraw any of the statements in his letter, and when appealed to later he again refused to withdraw the statement. The chairman said that if Mr. Bradney persisted in his interruptions and defiance of the chair he would ask him to leave the room.

Mr. Bradney: I won't go. The chairman: Then I will have you removed. Mr. Bradney (defiantly): Do it! The Chairman: I will ring for a constable, Mr. Bradney: You have gone as far as you can with me, and you can't go any further. If you want to (remove me, try it. Mr. Napier said the chairman should exercise his authority. The chairman (to the acting-secre-tary): Will you ring up for the police? Mr. P. J. Nerheny said Mr. Bradney was very excited, but they should endeavour to avoid the taking of any such extreme steps. The chairman said he was sorry to have to exercise his authority in this way.

,■ (The instruction to call the jpolice was not enforced.) The chairman said Mr. Bradney should' defer to the chair, and not make those continual interruptions. He moved: "That a committee be appointed to inquire into the matter."

The- motion was carried. The following resolution of the Finance and Legal Committee of the Harbor! Board was submitted to the Board: I "That 'the offer to purchase £IOO,OOO of debentures upon the terms mentioned in a letter from the Australian Mutual Provident Society, Wellington, dated November 24, 1910, be accepted;" and "That debentures of £IOOO each for the sum of £IOO,OOO be printed." The chairman (Mr. A. J. Entrican), in moving the adoption of the report, said the Board has secured £IOO,OOO at four per cent, practically at par. He considered that the Board was to be congratulated on the matter. Tlie report was adopted.
