WHARF LABORERS. Melbourne, December 7. Though the Conference of Steamship Owners and the. Waterside Workers' Conference was pledged to secrecy over the answer made to the men's claims, it is know that so far as Sydney; Brisbane, and Tasmania are concerned, their demands for higher wages have been allowed. In regard to ordinary cargo, the Federation is willing to increase the rate to Is 3d per hour and Is 9d for overtime, but cannot concede the increase of special rate's demanded.
