The Mayor has been appointed to represent the city at Coronation, and has been granted an extra allowance of £250 to cover expenses. SERIOUS MINING EXPLOSION. Reseiced 8, 12.25 a.m. Sydney, December 7. A serious explosion at the Killingwdrth colliery at West Wallsend was caused, by the accumulation of gas in the mine, which was not working. It is not thought that loss of life occurred, al-though.-the poppet-head and surface gear were shattered. Steps are being taken to seal down the mine, as it is burning. The damage is roughly estimated at £■20,000.
