WAITARA NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Mondayevening, when the Inspector's report was read. On the whole, the report was an exceedingly good one, and reflected credit on the staff, the Inspector's .remarks being such that the teachers might well be proud of. The committee passed a resolution congratulating the staff on the year's work. The headmaster's report showed an average attendance for the past five weeks of 291, but there is a considerable decrease in the number ol pupils owing to the withdrawal of those passing in the higher standards. No doubt this will be balanced after the holidays, when .the ever-increasing young fry are sent for their first round. 'lt ,was resolved to ask the Board to connect the two lavatories by a door, which will be a Mg saving in time for teachers and classes going from one room to another. It was also resolved to ask the Board to connect the school with the water supply. The visiting committee reported everything satisfactory at the school. Over 70 connections have now been made with the water supply, and there are over 40 more awaiting their turn. The S.M. Court sits to-day.. A number of cases are set down for hearing.
