In the Assembly, Mr. McGoven, in delivering the Budget called attention to the fact that the Departmental Estimates were prepared before the Government 'took office, and the short time at their disposal had not allowed any change of policy or reorganisation of the finances. All they would do was to modify them to make them meet the diminished revenue for the financial year. The estimated revenue for the past year was £14,279,927, and the actual receipts £15,197,750. The expenditure was £14,230,38(1, or £130,513 in excess of the estimate. The estimated revenue for the current year was £14,393,621, and the estimated expenditure £14,300,181, leaving a, surplus of £93,440. He proposed no additional taxation at present, but during the recess would seriously consider new taxation which would be necessary to balance accounts. THE FEDERAL CAPITAL SITE.
