MARITAL TROUBLES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. A young man named Matthew Cooper was changed at the Police Court to-day with assaulting his wife. The alleged assault was said to be the result of a domestic difference. Mrs. Cooper was conveyed to the hospital, and her depositions were taken early this morning. Accused was remanded to December 12. A WHALING DISPUTE. Blenheim, Yesterday. Mr. Florence, S.M., gave judgment for plaintiff for £2OO, the full amount, and costs, in the case Jackson v. Baldick and others, a claim for the value of a whale lost by plaintiffs' party in Queen Charlotte Sound, and found by defendants. Notice of appeal was given by defendants, and the case will come before the Chief Justice this week. TERRITORIAL CAMP. Ohristchurch, Yesterday. The Territorials are now in camp for a week, 400 men of the infantry battalion being under canvas. GOLD MINING. Reefton, Yesterday. The Pactolus dredge secured 350z 14dWit for 120 hours, and the Worksop dredge 28oz 14dwt for 126 hours. The mine manager of the St. George Gold Mining Company, Big River district, reports that a payable reef of four feet of solid gold-bearing quartz has been struck in the low level tunnel. This is 450 ft. below .the surface, and as the same line of reef outcrops 600 ft. north of the present working, the future prosperity of the company appears a certainty.
