The wedding of Miss Winnie Nixon will bo celebrated at Christchurch on the 22nd inst. A largely attended meeting of citizens at Cliiiisitchurch decided to ask Mr. J. D. Hall to contest the mayoralty. Mr. Levien, "Father of the House" in the New South Wales Assembly, yesterday completed thirty years of membership. Mr. Edgar Johns, who suffered severe injuries by an attack from a bull on Tuesday, is doing well at the New Ply. mouth hospital. Mr. Jack Garry has returned to Zealand from Australia under engagement to fullers, probably as first violin at His Majesty's Theatre, Wellington. Mr. J. Liddejl Kelly, well known in journalistic circles in New Zealand, arrived in the Dominion from England on Monday last, landing at the Bluff from the Ulimaroa. It is Mr. and Mrs. Kelly's intention to take up tlhcir residence in Auckland. Out of fifteen applicants, the Wanganui Harbor Board last evening selected Mr. Peter Mclntyre as pilot and harbormaster. Mr. Mclntyre, who is the captain of the Stormbird, has been trading to Wanganui for the past fourteen years without accident.—Press wire. Rev. James Guy, minister in charge of the Queen street Primitive Methodist Church, returned last night from a trip to England, and was met by a number of his congregation and church officials. The Rev. John Nixon will leave for iChristchurch early next week. It is now understood that the Attor-ney-General, the Hon. Dr. Findlay, is likely, to accompany the Prime Minister to England for the Coronation. The decision of the Government as to whether or not the Ministers will be accompanied by a party of members of Parliament lhas not yet been disclosed. Probably it has not yet been finally decided. A London correspondent who .has been looking up the date of the birth of Mr. Henry Burling, the well-known centenarian of Waikanae, found in the Westham Church, Stratford, the register of his birth entered in the parish register on October 25, 1807, the date' of birth being October 5 of that year, so that this wonderful old man is now in his 104 th year. The Rev. David John Steele, M.A., of Rangiora, died on Saturday last. He visited Auckland as one of t'he Canterbury delegates to the .Presbyterian General Assembly, which sat at Auckland last month, and while there he contracted am illness to which he gradually succumbed. The deceased, 'who was about 65 years of age, arrived in Auckland from Ireland in 1883, being then a student of theology in his third year. A petition, largely signed by town and country residents in the Hawike's Bay province, has been presented to Mr. Robert McNab, asking him to be a candidate for the Hawke's Bay electorate at the next election. Mr. McNab replied that he will be glad to meet the committee which has interested itself in, this matter, and the will visit Hastings with that object at the end of next week.
