Pigott was found guilty of false pretences by obtaining £IOO and a badge in connection with the shooting for the King's Prize. A strong recommendation to mercy was made on the ground of previous good character. He was sentenced to twelve months' hard labor, but sentence was deferred pending his finding sureties for good behaviour for twelve months. The sureties were immediately forthcoming. TARANAKI RIFLES v. WAITARA RIFLES. The Taranaki Rifles fired a match with the Waitara Rifles at Waitara on Thursday afternoon. The weather' was favorable, and some very good scores were registered. Lieut. AVillis was top scorer for the day with 10IJ, making the possible at 200, and he just missed the possible by a fraction at the other two ranges. Private Marett made 101. After getting a bad start at 200, he finished with two possibles in succession at 500 and 000 yards. Private Okey shot well, and had hard luck to miss the hundred by one point. Private Chappell was top scorer for Waitara with 97. The Rifles had an-enjoyable outing, in spite of the fact that they missed the train and had to engage a conveyance to luring them home. They were hospitably entertained by the Waitara Rifles. The maitch was won by the Taranaki Rifles. The following are the scores:—
