AMUSEMENTS.

CANTATA " DANIEL/' Despite counter-attractions there was a fair attendance at the Queen-street Church on Wednesday evening', when the choir, assisted by friends, rendered the cantata "Daniel/' with orchestral accompaniment. The performance was very good, and great credit is due to Mr. Deare (the conductor)'and the performers on the excellent results attained. The choruses were handled in fine stylo, especially '"ln Cod is our Trust," 'Sins, 0 Sing," and '-Thou, 0 God, wilt have mercy on Zion." Mr. Asher was in good form, and took the part of "king" admirably. He was heard to advantage in the duet, "Alas! 0 King." Miss D. "Guilford, as ''Queen" was very good. She possesses a fine rich voice. * In the solos. "Judah's Children" and "How lovely is Zion" (with vocal accompaniment), she i was heard to advantage. Mr. Henrichs as "Azariah" was indeed good, his solo, "0, People and Nations," being given with true dramatic force. Miss H. Guilford took the part of "Sister" in a very creditable manner, her rendering of the recitative, ''Hark, hear the hateful cornet sounding," being very good. The part of "Daniel" was in the hands of Mr. Rich, who did justice to it. He was very good' in the solos, "Blessed be the Lord" and "Hear the voice of my prayer." The quartette, "0 Zion, City of God"—Miss A. Guilford (soprano), Miss Stewart (alto), Mr. Henrichs (tenor) and Mr. Clark (bass)—was very w r ell rendered. The same may also be said of the trio, "Still do we' long for Thee," by Miss A. Guilford, Miss D. Guilford and Mrs. Gokling. Mr. Reid was in good form, and sang the solo, "0 Sing unto the Lord," in fine style. The quintette, "May God, in Whom we Trust," by Miss D". Guilford, Miss. H. Guilford, Mr. Henrichs, Mr. Rich and Mr. Asher, was one of the best items of the evening. Mrs. Golding, Mr. Henrichs and Mr. Rice gave an acceptable rendering of the trio, "Our God, 0 King, that bade us go." This is one of the most difficult items in the cantata. The following orchestra, accompanied the various items: —Messrs Ellis and Pascoe (violins), Roy Lee (flute), Lovell (cornet), Sturmey (double bass), Lewis (organ), and Golding (piano).

Rev. Nixon, in a few appropriate remarks, thanked the performers, and Mr. Deare, for the excellent entertainment, It is to be hoped that the choir will repeat this cantata at a future date.
