RIFLE SHOOTING

OVERSEA COMRADESHIP. Captain C. T. Mills, of the Taranaki Guards, has received from England a beautiful silver bowl, designated "Worthing Cup," and presented to the company by members of "H" Company, 4th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, Worthing, England, for competition. The bowl is the work of Elkington and Co., silversmiths, of London. It is of octagonal design, suitably inscribed, nicely finished, , and on stand complete. The accompanying letter from Captain F. W. Sim, of Worthing, reads as follows:—"It was a source of extreme gratification to the members of the "H" Company of the Fpur.th Battalion (Territorial) of the Royal Sussex Regiment to receive from the Taranaki Guards Rifle Volunteers the token of friendship which Private J. Riddles was commissioned to bring with him on the occasion of his visit to his native land in the summer of 190!). The handsome rug was doubly acceptable, for it was esteemed as an example of New Zealand manufacture as well as indicative of a desire on the part of our comrades in arms in that distant quarter of the Empire to assert their kinship with us. It seems only fitting that we should be permitted to return the compliment, and I am accordingly requested by the members of the "H" Company to solicit your acceptance of the accompanying cup as a trophy to be competed for under conditions to be determined bv yourself, and with the assurance of their keen appreciation of your kindness ' anl the good feeling which dictated the gift that reached us through the welcome medium of a former esteemed member of our own corps—Sergeant Riddles." The Guards, who are a keen company on producing good results from the Rifle, will appreciate the liberal kindness of "H" Company in presenting so valuable a trophy, and steps will be taken to formulate conditions that will worthily provide for a suitable shooting test for such an exceptionally good prize. The cup is on view in Sergeant H. C. Evans' (A.B.C. Company) window, Devon street.
