INVITATION TO AUSTRALIAN TEAM.
The lion, secretary of the Taranaki Hockey Association has received a communication from the New Zealand Hockey Association under date 22nd inst., stating that it has been decided to invite an Australian team to New Zealand, probably in July next year. The proposed itinerary provides for nine matches, including one against Taranaki on a Thursday, and probably one or two New Zealand test matches at the end of the tour. It is desired to raise £2OO for the tour, and the New Zea-I land Association has allotted guarantees among the centres to be visited as follows:—Wellington, Auckland, Canterbury, and Otago £25 each, Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu and Wairarapa combined, Hawke's Bay, and Southland £2O each. The letter adds that the cash guarantee must be in the hands of the New Zealand Association executive by March 1, 1911. The association played will be required to billet the visitors during their stay in its town, and to pay any loss and take all profits in connection with its match. A reply to the circular is requested before December 18 next. The Taranaki Association is to meet at an early date to consider the proposal. / <
At a meeting last week of the Wellington Association the proposed Australian team's visit was considered, and it was decided to write to the New Zealand Association adhering to the terms mentioned in a former communication, which were to contribute £2O or billet sixteen men for three days. A challenge for the championship shield for 1911 was received from the Manawatu Association.
