ARBITRATION COURT.
AN APPRENTICE'S WAGES,
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The Arbitration Court gave judgment to-day in an appeal case, Browett v Wright. The case was one in which a printer's apprentice was encaged at 15s per week, and while he was receiving that sum an award was made increasing the waje to £l. The ground of the appeal was the -validity of section GO of the Act of 1900, and it was sought to obtain power to have the apprentice paid full wage.
His Honor stated that section G9 applied only in eases where there was an inconsistency between the award and the contract of apprenticeship. It was intended to apply to apprentices engaged after it had come into operation. The Court contended that there was no inconsistency, and the case did not come within the operation of section G9. The appeal was dismissed.
