UTILISING WASTE PRODUCTS
A GERMAN SCHEME. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 29, 10.30 p.m. Berlin, November 29. A phrase in one of Earl Cromer's reports on Egypt resulted in experiments in Germany for the manufacture of a new fuel out of papyrus reeds, which cover 35,000 square miles in the upper reaches of the White Nile, obstructing navigation. The reeds are dried, powdered and compressed into briquettes, which are 40 per cent, cheaper than the coal used in the Nile steamers and Egyptian railways.
