VINDICTIVE ASSAULT ON A PRISON WARDER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. A young Australian named Frank Logan, who is serving four years in Auckland gaol for breaking and entering and theft, was charged at the Police Court this morning with having assaulted the chief warder by striking the latter on the mouth and threatening to do for him as soon as lie was liberated. Prisoner admitted the assault, but asserted that the warder singled him out for specially harsh treatment. The magistrate informed the prisoner that nothing that -had happened coukv have justified the assault. Prisoner remarked, "Very well, I'll take the law into my own hands." He was sentenced to 14 days' bread and water and to forfeit marks equivalent to six months' remission of sentence. When leaving the dock Logan rushed the chief warder and attempted to grip him by the thrat. He was speedily seized by the police and other warders and replaced in the dock, handcuffed, and sentenced for the latter assault to close confinement in irons for one month and to forfeit marks equivalent to six months' remission of sentence.
