WAITARA NEWS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. Btherington, manager of Messrs. Wilson and Grey's Waitara branch, arrived on Friday evening, and opened the office on Saturday. There are some light-fingered people here who will fall into a heap of trouble unless they check their propensities. On two occasions now the waterworks overseer's shed has been opened by means of a duplicate key, and material and tools stolen. A new lock and a vigilant eye may catch the marauder.
It is satisfactory to know that the repeated dinning at the inadequacies of the local telephone bureau has had effect. Tenders are now being called for the additional room for the purpose Only two other matters are required and they are the erection of a, new post oflice and the appointment of another man in the office. There Is too much' boy labor employed, and although they do thear work well enough there is great need for some more responsible officer in addition to those already in the office The business has increased, and an adequate staff should certainly be there to cope with it. The meeting in reference to the Fire Brigade which it was proposed to hold this evening has been postponed to Wednesday night in the Clifton Rowing Club's hall. 6 Constable Lapouple returned on Saturday evening from his holiday jaunfc to Australia. He has spent an enjoyable five weeks. Constable Liston returned to New Plymouth by the mail train on the gome evening. The North Taranaki Dairy Co. is now making 30 boxes of butter per day, Waitara and Tikorangi 27. This is a big increase on last year's production.
