STRATFORD DAY BY DAY
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Saturday. The Stratford School Committee has selected Mr. A. G. Johnson, B.Sc, of the Timaru High School, as the successor to Mr. F. J. Heatley, as first assistant at the High School.
Mr. J. S. Anderson,.of Wellington, has been transferred to the local branch of the New, Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company.
The local Swimming Club will open the season on Thursday. At a meeting of the Hospital Board to-day there were some rather unexpected happenings. The chairman, who was opposed to the Board's decision as to inviting applications for a medical man, resigned, and Mr. R. H. Cameron was elected in his stead. Dr. Carbery's resignation was received, but the Board determined to adhere to the terms of the agreement that three months* notice must be given. A ten-roomed house on the Rowan road, belonging to Mr. R. T. B. Mellow was burnt down last night. ' Over 100 entries have been received under the dog section for the local show. The first consignment of stock for the local show, consisting of 40 sheep, has arrived.
