CANADIAN MAIL SERVICE.
SHALL NEW ZEALAND BE INCLUDED? By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Melbourne, November 2G. The papers relating to the Vancouver mail service were tabled in the Senate. In the course of negotiations Sir Wilfrid Laurier stated that he did not think it fair to the Government of New Zealand to exclude her from the service. In a later communication Sir Wilfrid Laurier regrets that it will be impossible for Canada to disregard any longer the requests of New Zealand for a call each way, and Canada is giving permission forthwith to the contractors to commence such calls regularly as soon as expedient", trusting "the Commonwealth will see«its way to concur. He adds: '"ln any case, Canada is obliged to insist on a call at New Zealand under the new contract, from August 1 next," Mr. Fisher replied that the Commonwealth was unable to make the alteration Sir Wilfrid Laurier asked under the present contract, but the question of including New Zealand under the newcontract would be considered. Then follow Sir Wilfrid Laurier's cable announcing that the Union Company was the only tenderer for the service. and again asking that New Zealand be included, and Mr. Fisher's reply, already cabled, that he regretted he was unable to accept the tender in accordance with the Canadian proposals. The correspondence ends with the cable from Sir Wilfrid Laurier of November 18, offering to add another Australian port of call, and hoping the Commonwealth would see its way to reconsider tlie matter, but did not think it possible to further ignore New Zealand's request. Sir 'Wilfrid Laurier adds that Sir James Mills requested him to defer further action till he arrived in Australia.
