THE LICENSING QUESTION

REV. OSBORNE CHALLENGED. Mr. E. Bishop, of New Plymouth, writes to the editor under last night's dafe:—From the unassailable vantage ground of the pulpit Mr. Osborne this evening strongly condemned the 'nolicense' party, recommended the use of alcohol in preference to tea, and championed the Gothenberg system. In doing so he made unfair charges and statements which in open meeting would have been at once refuted. Mr. Osborne's attitude is far from being the attitude of the General Assembly of New Zealand, though he used the name of that august body at the commencement of lids address (vide reports of the Assembly's sitting just closed in Auckland). If the reverend gentleman will re-deliver that address verbatim in a place which will admit of question and answer I will provide hall and light and arrange details.
