ACCIDENT AT HENUI BEACH

MR. A. HARDGRAVE AGAIN DISTINGUISHES HIMSELF. While bathing" in the surf at the East End beach on Saturday afternoon a boy named Hancox got into difficulties owing to the strong backwash which prevailed. He went out to the rock which, rises out of the water some distance from the shore, but found on attempting to return that he could make no headway and his strength was failing him. His cries for help were heard on the beach and Mr. Walter Young and another gentleman went to his assistance, but they could not effect their purpose although they reached the boy, and Mr Young himself was becoming distressed. Then Mr. Hardgrave was informed of the situation, and rapidly divesting himself of his clothing swam out to the trio. It was the work of a few minutes for this brave fellow and splendid waterman to effect the rescue of both the unfortunate bathers, and soon they were on the beach.. Hancox quickly recovered, but Mr. Young felt the effects of has efforts for quite a time. The action of Mr. Hardgrave is highly commendable, and adds another to the already large number of cases (seven, we understand) in which he has rescued persons from drowning.
